Club History

Spring 1997 saw the merger of Brixham and Devonia AC. Initially the club opted for the name Brixham and Devonia AC before choosing the current name South Devon AC later in the year. A club competition produced the yellow and blue vest designed by Adam Nott. The vest and its lettering have remained unchanged since then.

Nic Andrews recorded SDAC’ s first National level achievement later in 1997 when he won the AAA’s U17 Mens 800m in Birmingham. In 1999 he won the English Schools senior boys 800m and the AAA’ s U20 800m.   In the same year he represented Great Britain Juniors three times, winning a silver medal in the 800m in the European Junior Championships.

Other National level performances by SDAC athletes include:

  • Amanda Applegarth English Schools Championships 2000- Senior Girls 100m 4th
  • Darren Westlake IPC World Blind Championships 2003- 1500m 3rd
  • Paralympic Games 2004 Athens -Finalist Visually Impaired 1500m
  • South Devon AC has produced Devon County Champions at distances ranging from sprints to marathon. We hope to continue doing so over the years ahead.
