Juniors Testimonials

``We joined SDAC (South Devon athletics club) in 2016 and have felt supported by the community since the start. The coaches are full of enthusiasm, with their main goals of encouraging young people, like us, to get involved in exercise and to learn a wide range of disciplines. As well as training at Churston grammar school, we appreciate the additional Saturday session at Exeter arena. The skills we have learnt have supported us to compete in cross country, indoor sports-hall and track and field events. We have now been a part of the club for 8 years, and since then I have competed for my school, Devon, and represented SDAC at indoor and outdoor national championships. We are now assisting in the junior sessions to give back to the coaches and ensure each session is memorable for the athletes. We are always proud when we wear our SDAC vests....``

``I have been doing athletics for roughly four years with SDAC. The coaches are very supportive and encouraging with athletes' progress. There is a wide range of activities covered within the sessions, and athletes are encouraged to help even if they are not able to take part in the certain sports for the session. Sportshall events are always a fun experience to meet people from different clubs and learn from others. The Pearson Cup is also an enjoyable experience for the younger age groups. The club allowed me to do the physical part of my Bronze DofE and has helped me improve with my throwing and jumping. I look forward to the rest of my time at the club and cannot wait to see how much I will improve from where I am now``

Melissa – under 15 girl

``Melissa joined the athletics club about 4 years ago, I never thought she would enjoy it so much, the coaches have been a great support to her and the rest of the athletes within the club, there is all so plenty of athletic events outside of the club that we have attended, the Pearson Cup unfortunately we only attended this once due to covid. Melissa has also attended the sportshall event every year. This is held between October and March. She has loved attending this event and has improved so much getting at least 1 pb every time she has attended. She is now hoping to do the outdoor competitions. The club has a great range of athletic activities so there something for everyone.``

``SDAC has given me a real love for athletics and I look forward to going, seeing friends and competing... I even love training! Even though I'm now one of the older kids to train, I still get so much out of the group and enjoy encouraging the younger members. I've made so many friends at SDAC, I'd really encourage anyone to give it a go!!....``

Oscar – under 15 boy

``Oscar joined SDAC as soon as he was old enough as he wanted to 'run races and win medals'! Over the past 6 years SDAC has truly given him the opportunity to do just that. With incredible support, coaching and encouragement he has competed in a wide range of events at local and county level. Unlike many 14-year-old, he is up on a weekend to get to training or competitions... he simply loves his athletics thanks to the SDAC team and the friends he has made there``

Oscar’s Mum Phoebe

``I really enjoy going to athletics because there is such a good range of activities. There is the opportunity to compete in different competitions at the weekend. I made lots of new friends and the coaches are really helpful and make everything fun.``

Isla Perry – under 15 girl

``From the moment our daughter joined South Devon Athletics Club it was clear that it was a supportive club that fosters growth, confidence, and a love for athletics. The coaches gentle and encouraging approach has not only helped to enhance her athletic abilities but has also been instrumental in boosting her confidence. The friendships she has formed with fellow athletes have not only helped to make the training sessions enjoyable but have also created a positive and supportive environment. As parents it has been a joy to watch our daughters progress under the guidance of the dedicated coaches. The opportunities provided by South Devon Athletics club, whether through fun activities, personal best challenges, or competitive events, have allowed her to set and achieve goals. The chance to represent county in competitions has been a source of immense pride for her and for us as parents. The club has become an integral part of our daughter’s life, contributing to her physical well-being, self-esteem, and overall happiness.``
