16 Dec Colin cracks the Caper while Matt makes light of the miles
The attractions of the hilly Cockington Caper run proved irresistible for a magnificent seven South Devon AC runners at the weekend.
Club chairman Colin Peters was 13th overall in a time of 1h 18m 17s, good enough to make him the third male Vet 55 runner across the line.
He was followed home by Marc Walpot, Neil Jordain, James Nash, Heather Coverdale, Roger Webb and Alison Ford. Roger Webb’s time earned him the accolade of being the second vet 70 finisher in the race, which formed the latest round of the club’s in-house Grand prix series.
Ray Tedstone and Colin Peters share the lead in the GP table, from Shaun Kirk, George Holman and Neil Jordain. Dani Waters continues to lead the women’s standings from Kerry Bell, Heather Coverdale and Cherry Powell.
Also on the honours board this week is SDAC runner Matt Dalton, whose exceptional run of ultras continued with the UK Ultras 100-miler in the hills between Eastbourne and Worthing.
A bright and sunny start to the event soon turned to wind and rain as Storm Darragh lashed the south coast, creating a huge challenge for runners and organisers alike.
Never-say-die Matt kept going and finished 22nd overall, the second Vet 55 to cross the line. His time for the 100 miles was a staggering 32h 06m 56s.
