20 Mar High-speed Henry aces wild and windy time trial
Senior and junior runners from South Devon Athletic Club ran together on a wild and windy night on Paignton Green as the club staged its annual one-mile time trial.
Conditions that saw sea foam being whipped across the course by a powerful easterly wind did not help anyone going for personal bests, but the racing was close and competitive.
Best time of the night went to high-speed Henry Gardiner in the second of two heats. He clocked 5m 52s for two and a half laps of the North Green. Roux Tucker ran 6m 26s and Jack Jenner 6m 32s. First senior was Shaun Kirk, who ran 6m 39s in the same race.
Full results were: Heat One – George Harries 6m 47s; Georgina White 6m 59s; Lexie Tedstone 7m 15s; Ava Green 7m 20s; Dani Waters (senior) 7m 21s; Fynn Perry 7m 34s; Theo Green 7m 35s; Brian Marjoram (senior) 8m 25s; Roger Webb (senior) 8m 35s; Jacob Wilson 8m 59s; William Crisp 9m 31s.
Heat Two – Henry Gardiner 5m 52s; Roux Tucker 6m 26s; Jack Jenner 6m 32s; Shaun Kirk (senior) 6m 39s; James Nash (senior) 7m 08s; Matthew Senior (senior) 7m 22s; James Spalding (senior) 7m 35s; Guy Henderson (senior) 7m 48s.
Meanwhile, Rob Foster tightened his grip on South Devon Athletic Club’s Winter 3k race series with victory in the second round to go alongside his triumph in the first.
Foster set precisely the same time – 12m 52s – as he had in the first race to win again, with Shaun Kirk the best of the rest for the second race running, albeit only two seconds in front of a returning Marc Walpot.
James Nash was fourth, ahead of Steve Wright, Matthew Senior, Vince Langdon, Brian Marjoram and Roger Webb.
Club members have also been active over longer distances, with Alison Ford clocking 2h 06m 50s for the tough Looe Ten Miler. The Bideford half-marathon saw Colin Peters crossing the line in 1h 36m 06s and Paul Williams stopping the clock in 1h 52m 54s.
