28 Oct Lone wolf Jamie stands out from the pack
South Devon AC racer Jamie Duffield stood out from the pack when he tackled the Lone Wolf Ultra in Haldon Forest at the weekend.
‘JD’ finished second in the gruelling event, clocking up 94.7 miles with more than 15,500 feet of climbing in 23 hours and 29 minutes.
The event comprised repeated six-kilometre loops of the forest, starting every hour on the hour with the winner judged as the last runner standing.
A field of 129 runners starters, and JD was among just five still going as the race reached its climax. The last lap was designated an all-out race for the finish line to determine the winner, and SDAC’s ‘wolf’ came about a minute behind semi-pro mountain ultra athlete Tommy Lewis.
Jamie Duffield was far from being the only SDAC runner in action over the weekend.
Neil Jordain was also in Haldon Forest a couple of nights before the Lone Wolf, and he managed to outrun the ‘zombies’ unleashed as part of the fun during the Twilight Halloween 10k, finishing in 1h 06m 40s.
The Tavy Seven on Sunday (above) was the latest round in the club’s year-long Grand Prix series.
First club member back after tackling the scenic and undulating Dartmoor course was Ray Tedstone, who finished in 50m 48s. Colin Peters finished in 51m 18s and Dani Waters was first lady in 51m 33s. They were followed in by Shaun Kirk (59m 22s); Antony Waters (59m 50s); Kerry Bell (1h 00m 24s); Vince Langdon (1h 06m 58s); Heather Coverdale (1h 09m 45s); Roger Webb (1h 14m 27s) and Alison Ford (1h 14m 40s).
