09 Sep One fell swoop for Jamie
The steep climbs and descents of Dartmoor attracted runners from South Devon Athletic Club on a busy weekend for the Paignton-based outfit.
Jamie Duffield took 14th place overall and fifth in his age category at the Sourton Tors Fell Race, while Colin Peters was 18th overall in the Dartmoor Volcano Race, fourth in his age category.
Shaun Kirk, meanwhile, braved the bad weather to take on the New Forest Marathon, which started and finished in Brockenhurst. He recorded a fine time of 3h 43m 15s.
Earlier, the club fielded six runners in the Dartmouth Regatta Road Race, staged over a new and even hillier course than before.
Ray Tedstone led the club contingent home in 36m 12s, followed by Vince Langdon in 47m 36s and Roger Webb in 50m 25s. Minnie Ashford-Lavery was the club’s first woman home, finishing in 55m 18s despite running in her heavy firefighter uniform. Next were Liam ‘Elvis’ Ashford-Lavery in 55m 31s and Colin ‘My Lovely Horse’ Peters in 55m 34s.
