South Devon speedsters spread their wings

From the tracks and trails of Stover to the streets of Jutland, runners from South Devon Athletic Club have been spreading their wings in recent weeks.

The Templer 10, organised by neighbouring club Teignbridge Trotters, saw five SDAC members tackling the off-road 10-miler based at Stover. Roger Webb was the second Vet 70 runner across the line in a time of 1h 54m 34s. First of the SDAC runners home was Shaun Kirk in 1h 22m 47s, followed by James Spalding, James Nash, Vince Langdon and Roger Webb.

On the same day SDAC’s Alison Ford was among the field in the Esbjerg Half-Marathon on Denmark’s Jutland peninsula. Running in stormy conditions, she finished in 2h 30m 22s.

Another Teignbridge Trotters race – the Ladies 10k – saw SDAC’s Kate Foley finish as the third female Vet 45, leading a South Devon trio home in 49m 21s. The others were Cherry Powell and Yvonne Patrick Odell.

A dozen SDAC runners tackled the Torbay Velopark parkrun as the latest round in their internal Grand Prix series. There were personal best times for Yvonne Patrick Odell and Ben Holman.

First of the club’s runners over the line was Vince Langdon, followed by James Nash, Ben Holman, George Holman, Paul Williams, Matthew Senior, Neil Jordain, Yvonne Patrick Odell, Roger Webb, Colin Peters (running as a guide for a visually impaired runner), Alison Ford and John Drennan, who was taking part as a parkwalker.

Just one SDAC member braved the Great links Tor Flyer fell race, with James Spalding finishing a fine 46th overall. The Chippenham Half-Marathon saw Kate Foley represent the club with a time of 1h 44m 51s.

There were honours for the club at the Torbay Half Marathon, too, with Kerry Bell the first female Vet 60 across the line and Shaun Kirk the third Vet 60.

Thirteen SDAC members featured in the results, led home by Colin Peters in 1h 39m 03s. He was followed by Shaun Kirk, Kate Foley, Rob Foster, Daniel Tagg, Kerry Bell, Paul Williams, Maddison Kidd, James Spalding, James Nash, Neil Jordain, Cherry Powell and Alison Ford.

The Torbay 10k, held on the same day, saw Steve Wright, Rachel Irish and Roger Webb flying the flag for the club.
