Super Sunday sees South Devon athletes shine

Super Sunday brought fast times, a charity windfall and a new club record as members of South Devon Athletic Club took to the streets.

The Ottery 10k race provided the fourth round of the club’s Senior Grand Prix series, and Colin Peters and Dani Waters scooped maximum points as the first SDAC male and female runners across the line.

Rob Foster, Shaun Kirk, Mark Holman, Roger Webb and Matthew Senior were the other men taking part, with Kate Foley and Alison Ford taking the other points-scoring positions for the ladies.

It means that Rob Foster now leads the GP table from Shaun Kirk and Colin Peters, while in the women’s section the leader is Alison Ford, followed by Kate Foley and Dani Waters.

Kerry Bell came home from the Plymouth 10k with a club record to show for her efforts. She completed the race – part of the Ocean City Running Festival – in 50m 53s for 157th place overall.

The time clinched her the club’s long-standing record for the fastest female Vet 60 over the distance.

In Bristol, Jamie Duffield completed the city’s half-marathon in 1h 47m 26s, running alongside his brother Jason and raising more than £600 for Cancer Research in the process.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend it was the longer distances that tempted SDAC’s runners to lace up their trainers and pin on their numbers.

Matt Dalton was the first Vet 50 across the line at the end of the gruelling 68-mile East Devon Round, finishing 24th overall in 17 hours, 32 minutes and 46 seconds.

Jamie Duffield was fifth overall in the Butcombe Trail Ultra in Somerset, covering the 50-mile course in eight hours and 49 minutes.

Paul Williams flew the SDAC flag at the Fast Friday 10k in Exeter, finishing 156th in 48m 50s.
