10 Feb The Holmans triumph in the Generation Game
Three generations of the Holman family donned the yellow and blue colours of South Devon Athletic Club to tackle the hills and mud of the Parke parkrun at Bovey Tracey.
The 5k run formed the latest round of the club’s in-house Grand Prix series for 2025.
As the runners assembled on the start line near the entrance to the picturesque National Trust estate, veteran Mark Holman was joined by his son George and grandson Benjamin.
For Holman senior it was a first parkrun, as it was for new SDAC member James Spalding.
Colin Peters and Heather Coverdale achieved the highest percentage age grading among the club’s runners, with 66.34 and 62.07 respectively.
Ray Tedstone was the first SDAC runner home, clocking 23m 45s for the challenging course. He was followed by Colin Peters, Rob Foster, Shaun Kirk, Benjamin Holman, George Holman, Kate Foley, James Spalding, Vince Langdon, Roger Webb, Heather Coverdale, Brian Marjoram, Mark Holman, Alison Ford and John Drennan.
It all means Ray Tedstone now leads the GP series from Rob Foster and Colin Peters. Heather Coverdale leads the women’s series from Alison Ford and Dani Waters.
Meanwhile, while his clubmates were comparing notes after their short and sweet five-miler, Paul Williams was just getting into his stride on the opening round of the Exmouth Winter Challenge. He completed a full marathon during the multi-distance event in 4h 27m.
