Hello my name is Cherry and I’m Welfare Officer for the club.
I volunteered to become the new Welfare Officer to support the coaches and club members as I already do regular safeguarding training within my profession as a healthcare provider. I felt that due to my background and having some idea of what the role entails, I would be a good candidate and could expand on my previous knowledge.
Having completed the England Athletics training, I have a better understanding of the Welfare Officer’s role, specifically within athletics, rather than a healthcare setting.
As Welfare Officer my aim is to make sure that our club remains a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all runners and coaches.
I believe that it is really important that all club members, regardless of age, have someone they feel they can turn to in order to report any safeguarding concerns. My role is to help report concerns in a confidential manner and if necessary, point people in the right direction if more information or support is needed from England Athletics.
My role also means that I am available for general wellbeing chats if needed, I can be contacted confidentially via a dedicated email address and I am also available at training sessions.
