08 Oct Templer 10
South Devon Athletic Club’s Kerry Bell broke a 12-year-old club record with an outstanding run at the Templer Ten on Sunday.
Her time of 1h 33m 35s for the 10-mile race took three and a half minutes off the existing benchmark.
Kerry was one of eight club members who tackled the challenging Sibelco Templer Ten which started and finished in the grounds of Stover School in unseasonal sweltering heat. Kerry pictured above described herself as the Rose between the thorns being the lone female participant on the day.
First SDAC runner home despite yet another fall was Shaun Kirk in 1h 18m 22s, followed by Rob Foster (1h 21m 07s); Jeremy Goddard (1h 25m 38s); Kerry Bell (1h 33m 35s); George Holman (1h 39m 54s); Paul Williams (1h 46m 38s); Mark Holman (1h 48m 02s) and Roger Webb (1h 52m 13s).
Kerry Bell was first Female Vet 60 in the race, Mark Holman first Male Vet 65 and Roger Webb third Male Vet 65.
Elsewhere, the club sent a strong squad to the opening round of the South West Cross Country series at Newnham Park near Plymouth.
George Harries, Isla Perry, Henry Gardiner, Colin Peters and Richard Perry flew the flag for the club, with under-11 George ninth in his race, under-13 Isla fourth in hers and Henry 16th in his.
