05 Aug Trotters triumph at record-breaking relays
Teignbridge Trotters took top honours among a bumper entry at the South Devon 3k Relays.
The event, organised on the Torbay velopark at Clennon Valley by South Devon Athletic Club, attracted a record 69 teams of four runners for an evening of high-speed competition.
Luke Reynolds, Oli Reynolds, Tim Pratt and Alex Sparks all turned in scorching times to bring their team home more than two minutes ahead of nearest competitors Plymouth GTR. Third team home was Erme Valley Harriers, for whom anchor leg runner Matthee Gilvear recorded a new record for the course of 9m 01s.
Fiona German of South West Road Runners was the fastest lady, running her leg of the relay in 10m 08s.
On a good night for Teignbridge Trotters, the Newton Abbot-based club also took home the awards for top senior female team, top male and female vet 50 teams, top male vet 60 team and top male vet 70 team.
Torbay Tri Club had the best male and female vet 40 teams while South West Road Runners were the best female vet 60 outfit, City of Plymouth were the first juniors and Storm had the best mixed team.
Torbay Mayor Cllr Hannah Stevens was the guest of honour, starting the race and presenting the prizes afterwards.
